Okay, so today, I broke my vow of silence.
I was getting Lisa some napkins, when some lady stops me and asks me why I'm wearing a skirt. She's with an administrator, but I'm not sure if she is one. So, Haley looked scared, so I broke my silence, thinking it'd just be for the answer, and said, because I like it.
Well, she didn't accept that, and asks again, but more boldly. So I answer just as boldly. She tells me to take it off, and I ask why. She says it's not in the dress code, and Mr. Dearing agrees. I continue to ask why I need to take it off, to the same confusing, backwards answer. So, I take it off and hand it over, and Mr. Dearing says I need to come in after school to get it.
My silence is done there. I know, I should support those who face the same injustices as I just did, but I needed to tell people. Make some noise for my cause. And EVERYONE started asking me why. Apparently the entire school was in the cafeteria. Everyone agrees, they can't do that.
I read the dress code. Nothing about not being allowed to wear skirts of the appropriate length. So, very upset, I get home, and my dad and I head straight out to school.
So, all of the admins have gone home for the weekend. So no tutu for me. Now my whole family is pissed. This is an obvious sign of homophobia. The administrators have decided to take the power to make rules on the fly, depending on what they see as weird. So, I'm taking a stand. If I don't get my tutu and my right to wear it, or a decent explanation of why, I'm calling the American Civil Liberties Union, and filing a lawsuit with them. My dad agrees, and is going to the school the earliest he can, which is unfortunately Tuesday. But I'm not letting this go.
